Just a year after posting a 1-8 record, the Pirates are 3-2 on the season and looking to add another win tonight on the road against the 1-4 Pequot Lakes Patriots in Pine River, Minn. The Patriots have lost four straight since winning their season opener.
The overall record between the two teams is 5-5 with Pequot Lakes winning four of the last five.
In Head Coach Scott Butt's first season, the Pirates are second in the Section 8AAA standings and tied for second in the Heart O' Lakes Conference standings behind undefeated Detroit Lakes and Perham.
Defense is where the Pirates need to improve, though, allowing 26.6 points per game and the third most yards this season (1,774) in the conference.
Offense has been Crookston's forte behind the relentless running of senior Josh Edlund, who leads the Heart O' Lakes Conference with 1,092 yards on 120 rushes for 9.1 yards per carry. His 13 rushing touchdowns are tied for the most in the conference as well.
Pirate senior quarterback Dylan Klatt has been steady with a 52.1 completion percentage, 519 yards, three touchdown and two interceptions.
Klatt's favorite target, senior Alex Boone, is tied for the second most receptions, 15, in the conference. He has 200 receiving yards with one touchdown.
That potent Pirate offense will need to look out for Patriot linebacker Justin Mackenthun tonight. He has 44.5 total tackles this season and the most solo tackles of anyone in the conference.
Pequot Lakes quarterback Jordan Redmond has attempted the most passes in the Heart O' Lakes and has completed just 36.3 percent. He has thrown 13 interceptions this season and five touchdowns.
