  • Girls' tennis: Pirates seeded No. 3 in 8A Tournament, will face Roseau

  • Crookston is seeded No. 3 for the upcoming Section 8A Team Tournament and will face No. 6 Roseau Tuesday, Oct. 9 at the Grand Forks Choice Health & Fitness.
     
    The Pirates beat Roseau 5-2 and 6-1 in the regular season.
     
    Staples-Motley is the top seed and will face the winner of the play-in between No. 8 Perham and No. 9 New York Mills. In the other two quarterfinal matches, No. 2 Pequot Lakes faces No. 7 Wadena-Deer Creek, and No. 4 Park Rapids takes on No. 5 East Grand Forks.
     
    The semifinals and finals will be played Friday, Oct. 12 in Grand Forks.
     
    The section singles and doubles tournaments will begin following the finals on Friday, Oct. 12 and will conclude Saturday, Oct. 13.
     
    The Minnesota State Class A Tournament is Oct. 22-25 at Reed-Sweatt Tennis Center in Minneapolis.

    Singles
    Pirate senior Kylie Simmons is seeded No. 3 and will face No. 14 Jaden Lindner of Pequot Lakes in the first round. Junior Amber Trostad earned the No. 9 seed and takes on No. 8 Grace Wolhowe of Staples-Motley in the opening round.
     
    Jessamy Jones of East Grand Forks is the top seed and Mikayla Wing of Staples-Motley is the No. 2 seed.

    Doubles
    Pirate senior Lilli Denison and junior Lizzy Awender were tabbed as the No. 4 seed and will take on Ashley Carlson and Sara Najjar of Wadena-Deer Creek in the first round. Pirate freshman Leah Trostad and seventh grader Ally Tiedemann were seeded No. 11 and will face No. 6 Brooke Wolhowe and Annie Kautto of Staples-Motley.
     
    Park Rapids' Christina Smith and Julia Renner are the top seed, while Maggie O'Keefe and Kelsey Zetah of Staples-Motley are the second seed.
