  • Girls' tennis: Lumberjacks beat Pirates in Grand Forks

  • The Pirates closed the chapter on their regular season Tuesday with a 5-2 loss to Class AA Bemidji at Grand Forks' Choice Health & Fitness.
     
    About two weeks ago the Lumberjacks defeated the Pirates 6-1 in Bemidji.
     
    On Tuesday, senior Kylie Simmons pulled out a win at first singles after losing the first set 6-0. Junior Lizzy Awender recorded Crookston's other victory at fourth singles in straight sets.
     
    Going into the postseason, the Pirates are 11-6 in duals with championships at the Pirate Booster Tournament on Aug. 25 and the Northwest Quadrangular on Sept. 25.
     
    The quarterfinals of the Section 8A Tournament will be Tuesday, Oct. 9 at the Grand Forks Choice Health & Fitness. The section semifinals and finals will be played Friday, Oct. 12 and 13 in Grand Forks with the section individual tournament played Oct. 12-13.
