  • Mae E. Christianson, 83, of Crookston, formerly of rural Maple Bay, MN, died on Saturday, September 1, 2012, at the RiverView Care Center, Crookston, MN.
Mae was born on October 21, 1928, to Olous and Josephine (Viggen) Rodahl in Holt, MN. Mae grew up and attended Busy Bee Country School near her home, and moved to Oklee, MN, where she attended Pleasant View Country School. Mae graduated from the Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, MN in 1947. While working at a Kife's Café in Thief River Falls, Mae met Arnold Christianson.
On November 23, 1952, Mae was united in marriage to Arnold Christianson at Thief River Falls. They made their home and raised their family on the farm in rural Mentor, MN. She was employed by Lee's Nursery for 11 years, but for the most part, Mae was a wonderful farm wife and mother. They farmed until moving to Crookston in January of 2006; and Mae entered the Riverview Care Center in February 14, 2009. Mae was a former member of Hitterdal Lutheran Church, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and with the Ladies Aid. She was a current member of Maple Lake Lutheran Church, rural Fertile and its ladies aid. Mae was also active in the Maple Bay Birthday Club, gathering with area women to celebrate birthdays together.
Eating homemade lefse, doughnuts and farm raised chicken dinners brought Mae's family and friends a lot of joy. Her flower and vegetables grew in abundance in her gardens due to her nurturing. Music, especially gospel music, soothed Mae's soul and encouraged her. At the core of Mae's personality was her helping nature. Mae's deep love for her family, especially her grandchildren, was seen in her giving of herself to care and comfort. Spending time with family was her greatest joy.
Mae is survived by her, one son, Wyman (Teresa), rural Mentor, MN, and their children, Eric, Bennie, Laura, Racheal, and Samantha; two daughters: Vonnie Christianson, Crookston, MN, and Karen (Matt) Lunak, rural Mentor, MN, and their children: Mariah and Savannah; and great-grandchildren: Jackie, Paxton, Parker, Stormi, Vada, Alex, Axel, and Penny; one sister, Gladys West, CA; and several cousins, nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by his parents, husband, Arnold, September 6, 2008, one grandson, Jason Christianson, July 14, 2012, her siblings: Norman, Orris, Lester, Julian, Clarice Clemmons, Eleanor Hopper, Victor, Cora Johnson, and LeRoy.
Funeral services will be in the Maple Lake Lutheran Church, rural Fertile, MN, at 11 AM on Thursday, September 6, 2012.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 5, 2012, from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM in the Erikson-Vik Funeral Home, Fertile, MN.
