  • Craig Bryant Skretvedt, 63, of Crookston, Minnesota, died unexpectedly Monday, August 20, 2012, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota.
Craig was born October 26, 1948 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Crookston, Minnesota to Gordon O. and Janet (Lee) Skretvedt of Ada, Minnesota.  The family spent several years in Crookston and then moved to Ada, Minnesota, where he attended school.
In 1966 Craig graduated from Ada High School. He then was accepted at Moorhead State College, Moorhead, MN, to pursue a teaching degree in chemistry. Next, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a medical corpsman.  Upon discharge he returned to Crookston and for further education at Agassiz Valley School of Practical Nursing. As an LPN he was employed at Riverview Hospital and also as an EMT volunteer for Polk County Ambulance.
While in high school, Craig wrestled for the Ada Vikings and spent several summers as a lifeguard for the community swimming pool. He also loved the game of golf and played well. Craig had a creative gift for the arts, too. He drew many sketches and created elaborate string art sculptures, all of which he gave to his friends and family. He had a lifelong passion for the game of chess. He used this in teaching many how to play the game, in volunteering and teaching the children who came to Villa St. Vincent's daycare program. Craig became a sought after teacher, opponent and friend to many.
Craig married Patricia Proulx in 1976.  From their seven-year union, three sons were born. These sons survive him: Andrew T. (Jane Hoesly) Skretvedt of Grand Forks, N.D., Dr. John P. (Rachel Jacobson) Skretvedt of Willmar, Minn., and Philip J. Skretvedt of St. Paul, Minn.  Also surviving him are his three grandchildren from son John and wife Rachel: Paul B., Jacob G., and Jillian C. Skretvedt.  Further surviving him are his parents, Gordon and Janet of Ada; his sisters Meridee Hodges of Chicago, Illinois; Kristi and brother-in-law Jack Tsahalis and nephew Jackson of Eagan, Minnesota; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Craig was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tommy and Lillian (Lee) Skretvedt, and Even and Ragna (Noto) Lee; and two siblings, whom he treasured, Colleen R. Skretvedt (March 25, 1952 – December 24, 1970) and elder brother Ronald L. (March 22, 1946 – April 2, 1976).
