Police have shut down an alleged illegal gambling operation in St. Cloud.
Officers on Thursday raided Triple Crown Sweepstakes and seized what authorities allege are illegal gambling devices, similar to video slot machines.
Both the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement Division and St. Cloud police had investigated Triple Crown.
DPS spokesman Doug Neville tells WJON-AM (http://bit.ly/MCtTgy ) the agency took action after warning Triple Crown that authorities believed the business was operating illegally.
The case is being referred to the Stearns County prosecutor for possible charges.
Company owners told investigators that Triple Crown, also known as Minnesota Sweeps, was raising money for a charitable organization.
Majority owner Steve Ehlen (AY'-len) contends that the games are not games of chance, and that the company is following the law.
