Eight teams from Crookston, Thief River Falls, Roseau, Warroad, Stephen/Argyle, Bagley, Pillager and Browerville will compete.

Crookston is the host of the Cal Ripken 12-year-old State Tournament Friday through Sunday at the American Legion Softball Complex behind Highland School.

Eight teams from Crookston, Thief River Falls, Roseau, Warroad, Stephen/Argyle, Bagley, Pillager and Browerville will compete in the intact tournament, which means non-all star teams will be competing.

Following the four games on Friday, at about 4 p.m. there will be introductions of the teams, a ceremonial first pitch and the national anthem.

Crookston Parks and Recreation Director Scott Riopelle noted that the fastpitch softball diamonds fit the Cal Ripken 12 year olds perfectly with 60-foot bases, 46-foot pitching rubber and shorter fences.

"This is going to be a great event with the baseball association helping and concessions," said Riopelle. "This is a great deal for the community."
