  • Thief River Falls put up 25 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Crookston Monday in Legion baseball at Jim Karn Field. Thief River Falls took game one 7-4. Crookston had the tying run at the plate in the ninth but couldn't come up with the timely hit. In game two, Thief River Falls pummeled Crookston 18-0.
    Crookston will travel to East Grand Forks Thursday for a doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m.
    Game one
    Adam Donarski suffered the loss on the mound in game one for Crookston, pitching three innings and allowing six earned runs on seven hits and four walks. Alex Wentzel pitched four innings in relief, allowing just one earned run on seven hits and no walks.
    Crookston got on the board with a run in the second after Thief River Falls put up three in the top half of the inning. Dylan Klatt led off with a walk for Crookston, stole second and was later driven in on a fielder's choice by Jake Perrine.
    Thief River Falls posted four runs in the top of the fourth for a 7-1 lead until Crookston recorded two of its own runs. Brandon Kresl and Kody Kawlewski led off with a pair of base hits and Klatt drove in Kresl with a base hit before Adam Donarski drove in Kawlewski with a fielder's choice.
    Crookston threatened in the seventh when Alex Boone reached on an error with two outs. He was then driven in by Kyle Proulx with a base hit. Kresl was then hit by a pitch, bringing up Kawlewski, who hit a hard liner to third that was snagged for the final out.
    All five of Crookston's hits were by different batters.
    Nick Hoffard pitched a complete game for Thief River Falls, allowing two earned runs on five hits and six strikeouts.

    Game two
    Jake Perrine started on the mound for Crookston and lasted 4 2-3 innings, allowing six earned runs, eight total. Parker Epema pitched one inning and Proulx closed out the final out.
    Brady Brooks pitched a complete game for Thief River Falls.
    Boone led Crookston at the plate, going 2 for 3.
