Crookston United, the U14 soccer team, was undefeated going into this weekend’s Fargo Tournament, but ended up going 1-3, finishing third, against some tough competition.
Crookston lost 2-1 Friday against the Greater Grand Forks Soccer Club team with Ian Johnson scoring the lone Crookston goal. They suffered their second loss of the day against Bismarck with Parker Nicholls and Jacob Roesch each scoring. A 7-0 win over Detroit Lakes put Crookston in the win column with Roesch, Johnson, and Miguel Hernandez all picking up one goal each and Nicholls and Guthrie Dingmann picking up two apiece.
The tournament’s goal scoring point system allowed the team to make it to the four-team playoffs where they faced a Fargo-Moorhead select team that hadn’t allowed a goal all tournament. Crookston lost 3-1 with Dingmann scoring the goal.
Crookston plays Thief River Falls on Tuesday and Detroit Lakes on Wednesday.
