  • The Crookston Reds and Ada Athletics were tied 2-2 in the bottom of the third inning Wednesday in Crookston when the game was suspended due to lightning. The game did not resume Wednesday with heavy rain soaking the field.
    Cole Ricard started on the mound for the Reds and received stellar defense behind him.
    He escaped damage in the first inning with a man on first when Reds centerfielder Nick Wheelhouse made a great diving catch to end the inning.
    In the second inning, Reds shortstop Skip Toops threw out a runner at first from his knees near the outfield grass for the second out.
    Ada had a few of their own stellar defense plays.
    The A's got on the board in the top of the third with two runs and the Reds answered in the bottom of the third.
    Ben Wilson got things going for Crookston in the third with a base hit to left field. Toops followed up with a base hit to center field and Matt Morin drove them both in with a double to the left-center field fence.
    No make-up date has been announced for the game.
    Crookston was playing without several key players, including manager Justin Johnson, Chito Longoria and Paul Smith.
    The Reds, 6-5 on the season, will host the Roseau Royals on Sunday in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
