Age 90 of Winona, died May 18. Grandmother of Crookston resident Melissa Perreault. Funeral will be May 25 in Harvey, N.D.
Bertha Nelson, age 90, of Winona, Minnesota died Friday, May 18, 2012 at Saint Anne Extended Healthcare in Winona.
Bertha was born February 4, 1922 to Nathaniel and Dora (Rall) Bohnet in Yucca, North Dakota. She was raised in Wells County and graduated from Hurdsfield High School in 1941.
She married Harry G. Nelson, of Denhoff, North Dakota, on April 4, 1942. They lived on the family farm until Harry's death in 1981.
Bertha was a teacher and taught in rural schools in Sheridan County for six years. In January of 1959 she started work at the ASCS office in McClusky as a government clerk. On February 28, 1982 Bertha retired and moved to Harvey, North Dakota in March of 1983.
She was a member of the Harvey Mennonite Brethren Church, the Farm and Homemakers Club and the St. Aloisius Medical Center Auxiliary.
Those left to cherish her memory include: her daughter, Sharon (Joe) Sinclair of Pasadena, California; son, Rod (Nancy) Nelson of Winona, Minnesota; and daughter-in-law, Sharee Nelson of Bismarck, North Dakota; six grandchildren: Melissa Perreault; Bill (Kathleen) Sinclair; Kelley Nelson; Amanda (Dustin) Karber; Jackie (Deacon) Eells; Jacob Nelson; three great grandchilden: Lawson Karber; Sterling Karber; and Teddy Sinclair; 2 step-grandchildren: Michael (Kimberly) Sinclair; Nikki (Chris) Thiffault; three great step-grandchildren: Nicolas Ovendale; Paul Sinclair; and Jack Sinclair; sisters: Emma of Harvey, North Dakota; and Martha of Audubon, Minnesota; brothers: Albert of Falkville, Alabama; James of Danesville, Michigan; LeRoy of Glendale, Arizona; George of Black Canyon City, Arizona; and Allan of Hurdsfield, North Dakota.
Bertha was preceded in death by her husband Harry; son, Myron; her parents; and brothers: Arnold, Bennie, Edward and Richard.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2012 at Harvey Mennonite Brethren Church, at 218 Ninth Street, Harvey, North Dakota, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Denhoff County Cemetery in Denhoff, North Dakota.
